MCH and Seams Wonderful Team Up to Create New Baby Kits

After learning that many families needed basic supplies for their newborns, MCH Director Sara Bauer reached out to Amenina Opet, the program director for Seams Wonderful, KKV’s sewing program. Together they came up with the idea for new baby kits.

Bauer commissioned Seams Wonderful to produce baby diaper bags and quilts using the cheerful, Island patterned fabrics. The sewing room was largely closed in 2020 due to COVID-19 but a few women have begun to work again in the sewing studio located at Kuhio Park Towers. It became a labor of love to produce the new baby bags and quilts, knowing that families would appreciate the care and attention put into each of the pieces. So far, MCH has commissioned 36 baby bags and quilts.

The MCH staff fill the bags with essentials for newborns, including diaper rash ointment, water bottle, mini first aid kit, digital thermometer, soothing gel pads, nursing pads, diaper cloth, hand sanitizer, swaddle, nail clippers, finger gum massager, and bib. The dream is to provide these kits to every new mother at KKV, welcoming each child with the love and care of the community.
