At KKV we honor our heritage and traditions. We have a rich history that helps guide our future. Our ancestors were deeply engaged in research and learning– asking, observing, collecting, transforming, and sharing knowledge. Through research and education we strive to support future leaders of our community by creating opportunities for learning, growth, and transformation that honor the ways our ancestors and community create and share wisdom.

Five KKV principles of research and academic engagement:

We must conduct research in a way that is healing and non-extractive.

We must ask questions big enough to hold many answers and focus on what is important to our community.

We must strive for sovereignty in our databases: measuring what we want to grow.

We must honor our successes, sacrifices, and struggles.

To reshape the systems we live in we must tell our story.

We recognize how important working together is to achieving our mission, amongst ourselves, and within our community.  The relationships that we create and support are the foundation of our work. We take time to know each other, celebrate our accomplishments and promote the spirit of working together. Kōkua is in our name and it is part of our tradition.  If you are interested in volunteering or collaborating with us please email volunteer@kkv.net.
