MOVE MORE CHALLENGE

Letʻs get moving! KKV staff get some movement during a quick break at the Na Koa Clinic. Pictured from left to right: Melida Angkiwin, Marleen Otto, and Dr. Laura DeVilbiss.

KKV launched the virtual "Move More Challenge!" at the annual staff retreat in October, when 115 staff members across all departments signed up to compete in the two-month program. Teams of ten participants each joined forces to exercise and develop healthier lifestyles. The program used the Wellable app, which was first introduced to KKV in 2021 by Hawaiʻi Primary Care Association. Team members uploaded their activities to the app to receive points.

KKV's staff responded enthusiastically to the challenge.  A total of fourteen teams competed, boasting unique and creative names like “Ketchup if you can” and “Dynamite Daze.” Besides a generous monetary prize to the top three teams, weekly prizes kept team members motivated to log their exercise activities.

KKV would like to extend a thank you to the challenge sponsors—HMSA, Kaiser Permanente, and the Hawai'i Community Foundation—for their prize donations. We also want to thank KKV's retreat planning team, the "Move More" team leaders, and KKV's research and evaluation team. The Challenge was a huge success!
