ʻŌlena Banana Bread 

Spring is in full swing! To celebrate the new season, Roots has shared a recipe for their delicious ʻōlena banana bread. ʻŌlena (turmeric) is known for its many health benefits, including boosting your immune system, fighting inflammation, and easing joint pain. Enjoy!

Supplies  

  • 4x8 loaf pan or muffin pan 

  • Pan liners (optional)  

  • Butter or non-stick spray 

  • Mixing bowl 

  • Measuring spoons 

  • Measuring cups 

  • Whisk  

  • Spatula  

  • Fork 

 

Ingredients  

  • 2-3 ripe bananas 

  • ¼ cup ʻōlena pulp 

  • 1/3 cup melted butter (salted or unsalted) 

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda 

  • Pinch of salt  

  • ¾ cup sugar 

  • 1 large egg, beaten 

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour  

 

Instructions  

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. 

  2. Butter or spray your loaf pan or muffin pan. 

  3. In a bowl, mash ripe bananas with a fork. Then pour the melted butter into the bananas. 

  4. Mix baking soda and salt into banana butter mixture. Then stir in the sugar, beaten egg, ʻōlena pulp, and vanilla. 

  5. Mix in the flour. 

  6. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan or muffin pan. 

  7. Bake for 50 minutes or until loaf or muffins are golden brown and no batter sticks to a toothpick when inserted.
