about Family Strengthening program
Family Strengthening wants the whole family to be successful. We’re passionate about the growth and development of the whole child, and assisting parents by providing resources, a safe place to “talk story” and find parenting solutions that will work. Families of all shapes and sizes are welcomed to talk with us in our family-friendly play room, ‘Ohana Play and Learn.
Families have access to:
The ‘Ohana Play and Learn room, where families play and learn from one another while waiting for appointments.
Engage in activities at OPL including: reading, drawing, art projects, singing and dancing.
Build strong relationships between parents and children.
Engage in conversation with other parents and staff with similar parenting challenges and finding solutions and resources.
Learn developmentally appropriate practices for building children’s self-esteem and self-confidence.
Understanding parenting styles and how parents influence children’s behaviors.
Assistance with applying for preschool and other programs.
Participate in parent talk story time (sharing).
The Family Strengthening program increases the reach and integration of literacy-related childhood development and school-readying activities across KKV’s numerous clinical programs and relevant partners. This program provides concrete supports for families that will promote parent resilience and social connections, parents’ knowledge of child development, nurturing, and children’s social/emotional development through engaging activities and resources.
