ABOUT WIC Program

Woman, Infant, Child (WIC) program offers nutrition education,  counseling and food checks for pregnant, post-partum, and breastfeeding women and families with children between birth and 5 years old. At KKV, families can take advantage of the `Ohana Play and Learn facility while waiting for their appointments. We have multilingual WIC staff to assist clients who speak Cantonese, Chuukese, Ilocano, Mandarin, Tagolog, Taiwanese Hokkein, Vietnamese, and Yapese. Interpreters are also available as needed.

Telephone KKV WIC at 808-791-9444 or contact KKV Intake unit at 808-791-9400 for referral the WIC program.  Patients can also walk-in to KKV’s main clinic or email wic@kkv.net and provide a call back number or contact information to schedule an appointment. 

Open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm for appointments and walk-in. The last appointments are 11:15 am and 3:00 pm. Women and families should be prepared for multiple appointments. The initial appointment and certification appointments takes 1 to 1.5 hours.  Follow up appointments range from 15 to 30 minutes.

WIC NUTRITION

As part of the WIC program, families will have access to:

  • Checks to buy nutritious foods to supplement monthly food budgets including fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, and proteins. 

  • Meal planning tips and sharing of healthy recipes for WIC allowed foods to maximize food benefits.

  • Encouragement and promotion of the best feeding practices for critical periods of growth and development. 

  • Monitoring of nutritional needs, iron levels, and growth, as well as timely referrals to health care providers, KKV resources, and other community services as needed.

  • Guidance for caregivers to identify reliable sources of health information and resources on the internet.

  • Breastfeeding education and support by a peer counselor and other certified lactation experts.

  • Modeling of patience, stress management, and promotion of self-care for parents and caregivers.

  • Flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of clients - walk-ins and appointments are welcome.

KKV serves all patients regardless of ability to pay.  We accept MedQuest and most major health insurance, and we can help with applying for insurance if needed.  For those without insurance, we offer sliding scale services.  To be considered for a sliding fee discount, you will need to complete an application and submit acceptable proof of income for all adults in your household.  Please walk-in and meet with our expert eligibility staff who are ready to assist.
