Seams Wonderful

Seams Wonderful offers a pathway toward self sufficiency that uplifts and affirms the cultural identity of women in our community. The program includes introductory sewing classes led by two peer teachers on a drop-in basis. Women learn to make items such as quilts, embroidered bags, water bottle holders, baby blankets, and skirts.  Advanced sewing classes build each participant’s skills. Seams Wonderful also has a revolving Sewing Machine Loan Program, providing time to practice and utilize their sewing skills at home, alleviating economic barriers such as childcare.

NieiRek

The NieiRek (Women of Vision) Leadership Project strives to establish a traditional support system and leadership development opportunities for Chuukese women in Kalihi Valley, and to build upon Kalihi’s rich cultural heritage to give children and young adults a solid foundation for success. NieiRek reconnects Micronesian women and children to their culture and community through education and cultural arts and crafts. Based at the Towers at Kuhio Park, NieiRek strives to establish a traditional social support system and leadership development opportunities for Micronesian women in Kalihi Valley, and to reconnect children and young adults with their rich ancestral cultural heritage through positive mentorship and hands-on cultural enrichment activities.
